Rites and Rituals

There are four major points of a person’s life in Hinduism that are celebrated with many rites and rituals: the birth naming ceremony, the thread tying ceremony, the wedding, and the funeral. Normally a Brahmin conducts the rituals on these occasions and sometimes the wedding and funeral rites cause the ceremony to last several days. Some rituals differ with certain classes-such as having a family member perform the ceremonies for the lower classes-but other rituals are the same throughout every caste.
