Ganesh received the power to remove obstacles and he became that god of great wealth. Ganesh has an elephant head on top of his body and how this came to be was from the god Shiva. Parvati was the mother of Ganesh and Ganesh was in a battle where his head was chopped off and he died. When this happened  Parvati punished everyone and sent thousands of slayers upon everyone. Shiva proposed his idea of saying that if he would bring him back to life she would end the revenge. Shiva sent attendants to go and bring back a head for this body of a god and they brought back an elephant with only one tusk. Therefore Ganesh has an elephant head with one tusk and a big belly showing his wealth.
